Accepting Jesus Christ
If God has convicted you accept Jesus
Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, continue reading on with
this Gospel Section.
In accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior, there are three things that need to be understood about
you and Him.
Man's Need for Jesus as Lord and
Savior
Romans 3:10-12 declares
"as it is written: 'There is no one righteous, not even one;
there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All
have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is
no one who does good, not even one.'"
From this verse, we see man's fault
in these areas:
- None are righteous
- None can understand
- None who seek Him
- All have turned away
- Worthlessness
- None who does good
Romans 3:23 sums it up best: "for
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
If we can be honest with ourselves,
others and God, we would realize that we are sinners.
Now there is some bad news. Since
we are sinners, we are in conflict with God. God is a righteous
God of justice that has to judge us for all of our sins. Since
we are under God's penalty. There isn't any way we can save
ourselves let alone others.
So is there anyway man can be saved?
What Christ did on the Cross
From Hebrews 9:22, we see that without
the shedding of blood, there would be no forgiveness.
"In fact, the law requires that
nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding
of blood there is no forgiveness." (Heb. 9:22)
Jesus Christ came down to this world
humbly (cf. Philippians 2:7) to become man and to live a perfect
sinless life to shed His blood (cf. I Peter 1:18-19) so that all
of God's judicial wrath that was for you and I would be placed on
Him. It was out of God's love (cf. John 3:16) that Jesus died
on the cross.
His death once and for all saved us
through God's grace. Just as Ephesians 1:7 proclaims, "In
him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
in accordance with the riches of God's grace."
So it's all paid for. But how
can you experience God and his saving powers personally?
Conversion
The first step in accepting Jesus Christ
is believing the message that you can only be saved by God's grace
alone through what Jesus has done for you. He is also your
Lord.
If you accept Jesus death and resurrection
for your sins, your sins would be forgiven!
The point of conversion is also when
you repent, or turn away form your sins. It's not easy, but
being a new creation with God's strength, you will find the ability
to do so in God.
Pray this salvation prayer (not necessarily
word for word) when you are ready.
"Dear Lord, as a sinner I recognize
that I have been evil and bad against you. Forgive me and
save me through Jesus works for me. Be my Lord in my life.
Guide me. In Jesus name I pray AMEN."
That's how simple it is on your part!
As a new Christian with Jesus as Lord
of your life, it's critical to be in a body of believers called
a church.
